Since the Boston Bruins made the decision to sign highly controversial defenseman Mitchell Miller to a contract, it seems the team has received nothing but negative press. Not only have the Bruins themselves been called to task, but members of the management team have had their integrity called into question and even the players in the Bruins' locker room have been forced to answer questions about the controversial move.

Through that torrent of negative publicity, Miller himself has remained entirely silent on the issue never once speaking out to defend himself. On Sunday that seemingly changed when, for the first time since the signing, a member of Miller's camp spoke out publicly in his defense. That person was Miller's agent, Eustache King of O2K Sports Management, who had some pretty strong words to offer up in defense of his client.

Here is King's statement, unedited and in full:

The decision to take on Mitchell Miller as a client was not one that 02K Sports Management made lightly. As one of the very few Black NHL agents in the league, a member of the NHL's Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and as a Black man who has spent his entire life in hockey, I understand the gravity of the situation and respect the fierce emotions and reactions to the initial reporting and commentary around Mr. Miller's past behavior.

O2K Sports Management would not have agreed to represent Mitchell without months of research, deliberation, introspection within our organization, and conversations with outside advisors. Moreover, when deliberating whether to represent Mitchell, we learned throughout the last six years, Mitchell has been volunteering with organizations such as:
-Spread the Word Campaign
-Little Miracles
-Adaptive Sports of Ohio
-Gliding Stars

Furthermore, this summer, Mitchell and I met with and committed to working with the following:
-Bill Proudman, White Men as Full Diversity Partners
-The Carnegie Initiative
-Hockey Equality

Also, before signing his contract, Mitchell met with and committed to working with local community projects such as:
-Bullying prevention program
-After-school program
-Youth guidance program

We believe in restorative justice. Mitchell and I are on that path together, and I welcome you all to join us. O2K Sports Management believes in accountability, and so does our client. After weighing all of these factors, we came to the conclusion to embrace the forward-thinking approach of Professor Loretta Ross and choose to "counsel not cancel" as the path to racial healing and understanding.

It is of course important to remember that King is representing Miller in a professional capacity here.
