Money Puck updated odds predict a shocking Stanley Cup Winner.

The 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs have been some of the craziest that I have ever experienced in my lifetime, at least that is the case through the first round of those playoffs. We have been treated to some terrific hockey since the playoffs kicked off earlier this month and we have been lucky enough to witness some pretty shocking upsets, including arguably the single greatest first round upset in the history of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Where things will go from here is absolutely anyone's guess at this point given some of the frankly stunning results we saw in the first round of the playoffs. The favorites from the Eastern Conference, the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the favorites from the Western Conference, the Calgary Flames, have both been eliminated from contention which has left the field wide open moving forward. As a result many a Stanley Cup bracket has been ruined and many a hockey fan has been left confused about how things shake up following the first round results.

Thankfully there are great resources out there who do the best with their prediction models to determine who will emerge as a winner in each and every game and in each and every series. In fact just a few short hours ago Money Puck released their updated odds for the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, including a detailed breakdown of how likely they feel each team is to advance to the next stages of the playoffs. To achieve this goal Money Puck focuses in on two advanced statistics, expected goals from non-rebound shots (Even strength adjusted) and expected goals in power play and penalty kill situations. After using multiple stats in their tracking models Money Puck feels these two have most consistently predicted the winner of a particular game or series and for the following model those are the two stats that were used.

So how about the results?

Well in a shocking turn of events the team that has the highest chance to win the Stanley Cup Championship as of today, April 27th, according to Money Puck are the Carolina Hurricanes with a 22% chance to win it all. They are followed closely behind by the San Jose Sharks who have a 19.8% chance according to the model while both the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues round out third place with an 18.2% chance each. As for the biggest long shot Money Puck gives the Dallas Stars just a 4.3% chance of winning it all.
