Monster trade proposed for defenseman Rasmus Andersson.

A gigantic trade offer that the Flames would have to seriously consider.

It seems as though it may be inevitable that Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson will be traded ahead of next year's National Hockey League trade deadline, with many believing that the Flames will receive significant offers given the relatively slim pickings when it comes to defensemen in free agency this summer.

Andersson is set to enter the final year of a 6 year deal next season, one that carries an average annual value and cap hit of $4.55 million per season, and there is good reason to believe that his value as a trade chip to the Flames will never be higher than it is right now.

On Sunday, Robert Munnich of the Flames Nation blog put forth an interesting trade proposal, one that the Flames would likely give considerable thought to. Munnich suggests a trade in which the Flames would send Andersson to the Nashville Predators, a team that went all in on free agency last year and had a disastrous season to show for it.

The Predators have two first round picks at the 2025 National Hockey League Entry Draft as well as two first round picks at the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, and Munnich suggests that the Predators could give up the lower pick in each of those drafts to acquire Andersson.

Nashville looks like they need a shot in the arm from a personality and culture perspective and Rasmus Andersson could bring that in spades along with his solid on ice play.

Andersson (50% retained) for picks 23 and 26.

While that may seem like a steep price, and it is, it is important to remember that Andersson is expected to be one of the best defensemen available this summer. Should Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad, a pending unrestricted free agent, re-sign with the Panthers this summer, there could be a massive bidding war between teams for Andersson's services.

Giving up a pair of late first round picks is a big ask, but with the Predators having an additional first round pick where they select higher in both drafts could make this a palatable deal.

Would you make this trade if you were the Flames GM? Would you do it if you were sitting in the GM chair of the Nashville Predators? Let me know what you think of this proposed trade in the comments.
