Monster trade takes shape in New York City!

For months now Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane has been linked to the New York Rangers. To their fans’s delight, Kane was asked earlier this month how he would feel about a reunion with former teammate Artemi Panarin. To no one’s surprise Kane admitted that he would welcome such a reunion with his close friend.

However, you have to expect that the move would be quite costly for the Blue Shirts : so much so that Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Chicago believes that many huge targets have been mentioned as potential pieces of an important return to make a Kane trade to NYC happen:

“Would the Rangers part with K’Andre Miller or Braden Schneider? Doubtful. What about Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko or Alexis Lafreniere? That’s where the conversation will probably go next, and that’s where it should go next.”

Roumeliotis focused Lafreniere and Kakko, but there is a sense that Chicago would refuse to acquire the latter, who unfortunately doesn’t seem to be progressing in the NHL.

This could mean that a monster trade involving Kane and Lafreniere could take place as the March 3 deadline gets closer. It appears to be a plausible option, especially since the Rangers have some space on their payroll just over 7.1 million dollars to make room for Kane. The Rangers also have two first-round picks in the 2023 draft to put up an interesting package for the Hawks.

However, the Rangers need to get back on track and prove to the Blackhawks’ forward that they are a serious contender in the Stanley Cup run. Last night, they fell 4-0 to the Washington Capitals. 

This will be one possible trade to get a close eye on as we head into the second half of the 2022-23 season.
