Montreal Canadiens officially sign 2022 Stanley Cup champion
How will his Cup experience help the Habs?

It seems as though there's a penchant for former Colorado Avalanche players to find their way to the Montreal Canadiens over the years, and vice versa. The likes of Patrick Roy, David Aebischer, Patrice Brisebois, Jose Theodore, and Claude Lemieux have all played for both franchises during their careers.
And now, the latest figure to switch from the burgundy, blue, silver, and black of the Avalanche to le bleu, le blanc et le rouge of the Habs is Alex Newhook, who won the Stanley Cup with the Avs in 2022. He was actually acquired by Montreal in a trade in a late June trade; Colorado received defenseman prospect Gianni Fairbrother along with a first and second round draft pick in return.
Today, he cemented the beginning of his tenure with Montreal by signing a four year contract with an AAV of $2.9 million.
After the trade, Habs head coach Martin St. Louis stated that he expects Newhook to rack up more points this season as he's expected to get plenty more ice time.
"I think he'll get a better opportunity here, since he was playing 12-13 minutes per game, and I think he will play more here and get more responsibilities," St. Louis said. "We can't overlook the experience he gained in Colorado. He played in about 150 games and he won a Stanley Cup. He's not the tallest player (5-foot-10, 190 pounds), but he plays a heavy game. We think that he can show more in a different environment."
Last year with the Avs, Newhook scored 14 goals with 16 assists. During Colorado's 2022 Stanley Cup run, Newhook appeared in 12 games and contributed 12 assists.
