This just in, the Boston Bruins have confirmed that defenseman Jakub Zboril will miss the rest of the 2021-22 season while he recovers from knee surgery.

From the team's official press release:

BOSTON - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney issued today, December 21, the following update on defenseman Jakub Zboril :

Jakub Zboril suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during the team's game at Nashville on December 2.

He underwent successful surgery, performed by Dr. Peter Asnis at Mass General Brigham, on Thursday, December 16.

Zboril is expected to miss the remainder of the 2021-22 regular season.

The 6-foot-1, 191-pound defenseman has skated in 54 career NHL games with Boston, tallying 12 assists.

The blueliner who was infamously taken 13th overall and the first of the Bruins' three consecutive first round picks in 2015, has really taken a step forward in his game this season and established himself as an everyday NHL player. Tough news for a guy who is working on his own redemption story of sorts.

The 24 year old has three assists and 10 games this season and has looked solid on the B's back end. He's unlikely to ever lift up to his draft pedigree, but let's be honest... it's not this kid's fault when and where he was drafted. The Bruins selected him 13th overall (and Jake DeBrusk 14th overall, then Zach Senyshyn 15th overall) ahead of available players like Thomas Chabot, Brock Boeser, Kyle Connor, Mat Barzal and Travis Konecny... ouch.
