The update is not good.
Last weekend the Ottawa Senators got quite a scare when forward Josh Norris suddenly collapsed after taking a faceoff during a game against the Arizona Coyotes.
Initially it looked like there was something seriously wrong with Norris as he appeared to fall flat on his face as he hit the ice, but he would eventually get up and skate off under his own power. We would later learn that Norris had suffered an injury to his shoulder, a major cause for concern given his history of injuries to that particular part of his body.
It would now appear as though those concerns were warranted with the latest update indicating that Norris will now be forced to miss a significant portion of the regular season and perhaps even more than that. The update comes courtesy of Ottawa Senators insider Bruce Garrioch, who on Sunday reported that Norris would be out for a minimum of 3 months as a result of the shoulder injury. To be clear Garrioch did not set a timeline for Norris' return, admitting that he did not have one, but simply made it clear that there was no chance of Norris returning before a period of 3 months. This of course means he could be out even longer than that.
Norris previously had surgery on that shoulder all the way back in 2019 after suffering an injury at the World Junior Championship, and that injury would rear its ugly head again last season when Norris missed 15 games with a left shoulder injury. When a player suffers so many injuries to the same area it becomes an obvious cause for concern, and given the relative harmless nature of the face off that led to Norris' injury last weekt, it's no doubt on everyone's mind.
If you haven't seen how the injury itself occurred, you can check out the video replay below. You can see there was very little contact here, which again is a worrying sign.
