Things go from bad to worse for Morgan Rielly

The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a major problem on their blue line this season in the form of defenseman Morgan Rielly, and unfortunately things have now gone from bad to worse.

On Saturday night, Rielly was absent for the entire third period of the Leafs clash with the Vancouver Canucks, with the Leafs eventually confirming that Rielly would not return due to injury.

Unfortunately the news would only get worse from there with questions about Rielly's health coming up during the post game media availability from Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube. Despite the fact that the injury had occurred earlier in the game, Berube did not have any answers for reporters regarding his injured defenseman.

"Just upper body right now," said Berube. "He will be looked at tomorrow."

The timing is tough for Rielly who has already become a lightning rod for criticism this season due to his poor play on the blue line. In 54 games Rielly has a respectable 7 goals and 24 assists for 31 points, but boasts a plus minus rating of -17 due to frequent defensive mistakes and frankly head scratching decision making at times.

The timing of this injury will only further fuel that criticism, especially given that the Leafs arguably played their best hockey on Saturday night when Rielly was no longer in the lineup.
