More details revealed on Mark Scheifele’s father’s death and extremely classy move by Jets
This is just a heartbreaking story. The latest details below:
When the Winnipeg Jets were about to play the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of their second-round NHL playoff series on Saturday night, it had just been announced that forward Mark Scheifele has lost his father Brad. It was clear in the press conference then held by Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff that Brad Scheifele’s death was unexpected.
On Tuesday, when Brad Scheifele’s obituary was published, an important detail was mentioned about his death with a beautiful tribute starting off with the line:
“Passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at WRHN @ Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital) in Kitchener, ON at the age of 68.”
While he was still so young, it is a good feeling to know he was not alone, surrounded by people he loved.
It was also revealed by team insider Murat Ates that the Jets’ organization has pulled an extremely classy move for Mark Scheifele and his teammates. He’s reported that the Jets are chartering several players and staff to Kitchener later this week so that they can attend Brad Scheifele’s funeral.
“This is the sort of thing that the Winnipeg Jets always get right.”
On Saturday night, after the devastating news for Mark Scheifele, the Jets were hoping to get a win to force a Game 7 back home. They wanted to do it for Mark, who played the game and scored the team’s lone goal, and for Brad.
They will be there for the Scheifele in the coming days when they all get to celebrate Brad Scheifele’s life.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Scheifele family and everyone who loved Brad.
