More frustration for Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh…

Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas knows fans, his players and even his captain Sidney Crosby aren’t thrilled with the changes he’s made at the trade deadline, while the team still fights for a playoff spot. But that fact will not change his plans going into the offseason. Dubas spoke with Pierre LeBrun of the Athletic and revealed that despite the fact that Crosby publicly expressed his frustration with the Jake Guentzel trade to the Carolina Hurricanes, the Penguins are entering an important retooling process. The GM expects more moves will that won’t please Crosby.

“I think you’d be remiss not to seek his opinion and how he’s feeling,’’ Dubas said. “Obviously he’s done so much for the city of Pittsburgh and for the Penguins. … I want his opinion, I value his opinion.

“We may not always agree and I might have to do things in the short run he disagrees with.’’

The frustration from Crosby has led pundits to hint at rumours of No. 87 looking to be traded or sign elsewhere, with a Stanley Cup contender, for another chance at the championship before hanging up the skates.

However, Sid is eligible to sign an extension in Pittsburgh starting on July 1st, and there will be a meeting with his agent Pat Brisson and Dubas, who’s adamant he wants Crosby to retire as a Penguin.

“But I think everyone’s been pretty clear on where they stand on the fact everyone would like to see him end his career in Pittsburgh and it’s my intention that in those years that we’re back and definitively contending.’’

For now, Crosby might use the frustration linked to losing a friend in Guentzel to push his Penguins into the postseason. They are currently in a fight for the last Wild Card playoff spot in the Eastern conference, sitting seventh in the Metropolitan division, seven points behind the Detroit Red Wings currently holding on to the coveted spot.
