A Hockey Night legend weighs in.
The situation in Pittsburgh has continued to devolve, the latest casualty of course being former head coach Mike Johnston.
However Hockey Night legend Ron Maclean has weighed in on the Penguins' troubles and he believes the issue is not with the coaching staff, but a rift between superstars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
"You can see it even from the outside that there's something going on there that those two aren't in cahoots," said Maclean.
Maclean seemed to indicate that he believes the firing of Mike Johnston, the finger pointing at Phil Kessel, are all just distractions from the real issue.
"They have a problem and it's got nothing to do with Mike Johnston, it's going nothing to do with Phil Kessel, the truth of the matter is it seems that the two big guns don't row in the same direction," he added.
Unfortunately for the Penguins, Maclean isn't convinced that a new coach will make a difference, and he once again reiterated that he feels Johnston was not at fault.
"I don't know if the new coach can make a difference but I don't blame Mike Johnston for what happened."
