Morgan Geekie leaves the Bruins in the middle of a game!

The Boston Bruins have lost one of their top forwards in what sounds like a very serious situation.

On Saturday, the Bruins faced off against the New York Rangers but it would be during the course of that game that the Bruins would suddenly and unexpectedly see one of their players leave the team. Bruins forward Morgan Geekie was dressed for the game, but the Bruins would announce only moments ago that Geekie has left the game entirely. Geekie played in the game's first period but would leave before the start of the second period, with the circumstances behind that departure currently unknown.

Update: The Bruins have announced that Geekie has left due to a family matter.

A family matter is of course a very vague description and it is rather odd to see a player in the National Hockey League just up and leave in the middle of a game. I can only hope that everything is going to be alright with both Geekie and his family, with this giving many cause for concern given the unusual nature of the situation.

Geekie has been one of Boston's most important offensive contributors this season with 25 goals and 16 assists for 41 points in just 44 games this season, and I can only hope that this won't keep him away from the team for very long.
