Not often in the modern era of the National Hockey League do we find ourselves truly shocked by a trade, but that is exactly what happened on Sunday night.

A report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli has revealed that several of the general managers from around the league were left shocked by the trade that was made between the Nashville Predators and the Tampa Bay Lightning, a trade that had undrafted forward Tanner Jeannot as it's center piece.

"Multiple NHL GMs are stunned by the return," wrote Seravalli of the trade. "Like jaws on the floor."

You can hardly blame those GMs for being left puzzled when you consider the ridiculous return the Nashville Predators got for Jeannot. The Lightning not only gave up defenseman Cal Foote in the deal, but they also handed over a whopping 5 draft picks to the Predators as well.

NHL GMs weren't the only ones left shocked however, it would appear that hockey fans were left just as confused. According to Cap Friendly, their website saw more traffic on Sunday as a result of the Jeannot trade than it did for the highly

Here is a full breakdown of the deal.

Tampa receives:

Tanner Jeannot.

Nashville receives:

Cal Foote
1st round pick in 2025
2nd round pick in 2024
3rd round pick in 2023
4th round pick in 2023
5th round pick in 2023

That is a king's ransom for Jeannot and when you consider that he has just 5 goals and 9 assists for a total of 14 points this season, the return becomes even more confusing. I mean, the Predators have genuinely received a draft pick for every goal Jeannot has had for them this season.

Making this even more bizarre still is the fact that Jeannot isn't under contract beyond this current season. While Jeannot will be a restricted free agent which will give the Lightning some measure of control, you also have to believe that they have given Jeannot incredible leverage in his next contract negotiations considering what they gave up for him on Sunday night.

This is one that is going to be discussed for a very long time to come, especially once we know what all of those draft picks turn into for Nashville.
