Stop us if you've heard this one before - Team Canada has won the gold!
This time, it's the 2022 World Juniors edition that won ultimate glory for their country, the 19th such that they've won in their history.
It's Kent Johnson, who was drafted fifth overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, who tallied the OT golden goal. He scored the game-winner to take down Team Finland late last night, burying his own rebound past goaltender Juha Jatkolaand sending the frenzied fans at Edmonton's Rogers Place into celebration mode:
It was team Canada finding the scoresheet first courtesy of goals by Joshua Roy and William Dufour. However, Team Finland was able to claw their way back into the contest, as Aleksi Heimosalmi bested goaltender Dylan Garand with a snipe; it would be Joakim Kemell knotting the score at 2-2 midway through the 3rd period.
