The Flames are looking to get back on track before it’s too late, but one player that has already giving up is defenseman Nikita Zadorov, who recently requested a trade out of Calgary. Many insiders believe that his demand could only be the tip of the iceberg and Darren Dreger went a bit further when he targeted top foward Nazem Kadri in his analysis of the situation in Calgary on last night’s Insider Trading on TSN.

When it comes to Kadri, who agreed to a hefty seven-year, $49-million deal in the summer of 2022, Dreger spoke of the possibility of leaving the Flames if ever they chose to undergo a significant rebuild.

“Kadri, as an example, signed that long contract as a free agent with the Flames - he wants to stay in Calgary, he wants to win with the Flames, but if the Flames as an organization regress to a rebuild then he’s not interested in that and I think there would be others in a similar situation.”

And so it looks like Kadri could deliver this ultimatum to the Flames’ front office, making it clear that if ever the team chooses the rebulding route, he would want to be moved out.

News emerged on Friday night that Zadorov wanted out with his agent Dan Milstein of Gold Star Sports Management is hoping for a quick resolution. The defenseman addressed the situation after Saturday’s loss to the Ottawa Senators, saying that despite the fact that he’s enjoyed his time as a Flame, the business side is taking over at the moment and could therefore lead to a trade.

According to Dreger, if things don’t change in Calgary and team management focuses on a rebuild, Kadri could be giving a similar speech in the future…
