Nazem Kadri hears back from a contender looking to strike a deal with him
But they might not be able to offer that much…

The Colorado Avalanche is still attempting to retain star forward Nazem Kadri, who remains the most coveted forward on the free agent market at the moment.
There have been speculations that Kadri could land a minimum of $8 million per season on his next deal, but that number could go as high as $10 million. Last week on the “Real Kyper and Bourne” podcast, Nick Kypreos mentioned the Boston Bruins being one of his suitors, along with the Arizona Coyotes and Seattle Kraken.
However, seeing losing Johnny Gaudreau to a shocking deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Calgary Flames are back in the sweepstakes as a dark horse. Team insider Erik Francis believes that the Flames are going back to Kadri with an offer, “but not for the big dollars he’s chasing. If price tag comes down Flames are in the mix.”
However, he wonders if Kadri is to accept less money, wouldn’t he choose to stay in Colorado then?
Kadri registered a career-high 87 points last season, and put up 15 points in 16 games in the playoffs en route to a Stanley Cup victory.
The Flames currently have $18,450,000 available on their cap space and they still have expiring on the NHL roster, which include Matthew Tkachuk ($7 million), Andrew Mangiapane ($2.425 million), Michael Stone ($750,000), Oliver Kylington ($750,00) and a few others, per Cap Friendly. With that, there is hope that they could afford a significant signing and we understand how the Flames are taking a risk going back to Kadri for a deal.
