Talk about kicking a team while they are down.

Just about everyone has been giving it to the Colorado Avalanche as of late after the Mikko Rantanen trade backfired in more spectacular fashion than anyone could have ever imagined, leaving Avalanche team president Joe Sakic and Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland with significantly damaged reputations.

It is one thing when the comments are coming from random people on the street or on the internet, and it's another matter entirely when those same comments start coming for players who won a Stanley Cup Championship for your franchise.

On Sunday, Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri woke up and chose violence when he hopped onto social media to poke some fun of his own at his former team. Kadri's tweet was short and to the point, making it clear that he also felt the Avalanche had really dropped the ball with the Rantanen trade.

"Rule number one : You always keep the dawgs … #96," wrote Kadri on twitter.

Kadri himself spent 3 years as a member of the Colorado Avalanche and in his final season with that team he recorded 28 goals and 59 assists for 87 points in just 71 games played in the regular season. His playoff numbers were also fantastic with 7 goals and 8 assists for 15 points in 16 playoff games, eventually helping the Avalanche win their most recent Stanley Cup championship.

At the end of that season however Kadri was due for a new deal and the Avalanche chose not to make him a competitive offer, leaving a massive gap at the second line center position that the Avalanche have yet to adequately fill since Kadri's departure. In fact one could argue that the Avalanche's need for an upgrade at that position may have played a role in their ultimate decision to trade away Rantanen rather than have 3 players, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and Rantanen himself, eating a sizeable chunk of their cap.

Unfortunately things are looking worse by the day for the Avalanche with Rantanen having 9 goals and 9 assists for a ridiculous 18 points in just 10 playoff games this season, and it seems Kadri is reveling in the fact that his former team has failed to learn from the mistakes they've made in the past.
