NBA's Bucks sit out Game 5 in protest of the Jacob Blake shooting in Wisconsin

If you're like me, you're probably not up to date on the latest in the news cycle. After all, I'm busy watching hockey and grilling in the sunshine these days. But when something as historic as what's playing out in the NBA happens, you have to stand up and take notice.

The NBA's Milwaukee Bucks have made the decision to boycott Game 5 of their playoff series against the Orlando Magic today in protest against the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, WI this past weekend. Again, for those not in the know the 29 year old Blake, a black man, was breaking up an argument from two women when police arrived on the scene. 

Blake, whose three children were nearby in a parked car, walked away from the scene and that's when officers opened fire on him shooting him in the back in front of his children. Blake is in a Milwaukee hospital recovering but doctors say it will be a miracle if he ever walks again. 

"He had a bullet go through some or all of his spinal cord, at least one bullet," Blake's lawyer Patrick Salvi Jr. said earlier today. "He has holes in his stomach. He had to have nearly his entire colon and small intestines removed," Salvi added, saying the family will file a civil lawsuit against the police department over the shooting."

People the world over are pointing to this as another overt example of police brutality and racial injustice. And now the sporting world is reacting to it. 

While some NHL players have given the situation lip service, the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks have taken things a step further.

The Bucks will forfeit tonight's game according to ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski.
