The newest acquisitions will have to wait to suit up.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have several new players in the fold after a flurry of deals from general manager Kyle Dubas. The last two deals following the Ryan O'Reilly trade saw the team bring aboard defenseman Jake McCabe, forward Sam Lafferty, and a conditional fifth-round draft choice in both 2024 and 2025 from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for draft picks.
Secondly, the team sent defenseman Rasmus Sandin to the Washington Capitals and got Erik Gustafsson in return.
Additionally, the Leafs picked up former team draft pick Luke Schenn, acquiring him from the Vancouver Canucks for a 2023 third round pick. He was originally selected by Toronto with the No. 5 overall pick back in 2008.
But for fans of the Leafs who are hoping to catch a glimpse of their newest acquisitions, you'll have to wait just a bit longer. The team is in Edmonton tonight for a matchup against Connor McDavid and the host Oilers, but neither of the newest Leafs players will be available to suit up. According to head coach Sheldon Keefe, Schenn is arriving later today while Erik Gustafsson will meet up with them in Calgary.
Tonight's game against the Oilers will start at 8:00 PM EST.
