The watch is on when it comes to forward Alex DeBrincat, who reportedly turned down an eight-year extension with the Ottawa Senators, resulting in GM Pierre Dorion searching for a trade partner for his blockbuster acquisition at the 2022 NHL Draft. While recently the New York Islanders emerged as a potential trade partner, along with the Detroit Red Wings who keep looking to bring home the star forward, there now appears that a new contender is joining the sweepstakes.

The Hockey News Anaheim’s Matt Levine recently wrote how DeBrincat would make sense for the Anaheim Ducks. The team is in desperate need for added scoring punch and have more than enough cap space, along with the tradeable assets to make a competitive pitch to the Senators.

“The Ducks’ interest in DeBrincat makes sense as they are looking to add in a number one wing for their top line, plus they have the money and assets to make a deal possible. If the team could land a player like DeBrincat, it would go a long way in their rebuild. Things would be expedited, and the Ducks would land a true scorer to pair alongside all the young talent.”

The only issue with Anaheim is that they aren’t a true Stanley Cup contender at the moment, and it might be hard for them to convince DeBrincat to join a rebuilding team. DeBrincat’s agent, Jeff Jackson, confirmed that no agreement for an actual trade involving DeBrincat has been reached at the moment and emphasized the requirement for such an agreement before entering into negotiations. The agent preached patience while waiting for progress on that front.
