Ever since Elias Lindholm revealed he would be willing to be moved out of Calgary by the Flames in a trade, rumours have linked him to different contenders, most notably the Boston Bruins who are seeking power up front following the retirement of captain Patrice Bergeron.

While Boston would be a fun landing spot for Lindholm, he is now been linked to another contender as Sammi Silber of Washington Hockey Now suggests theCapitals could be monitoring his situation in Calgary.

Silber is up front about the challenge that comes with acquiring Lindholm, as the Capitals’ potential trade assets like Evgeny Kuznetsov and Anthony Mantha may not be sufficient to tempt the Flames.

He also worries that Lindholm may not be interested in joining the Caps long-term with Alex Ovechkin’s pending retirement.
But there is no doubt that Washington is seeking a reliable top-six center.

The Flames are not believed to be actively shopping Lindholm, still hoping to extend him. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman recently speculated it could cost the Flames almost $9 million annually to re-sign Lindholm.

And so it depends what offer they get for Lindholm if he does end up out of Calgary.
