New feud erupts in Philly with yet another Flyers forward on his way out under Tortorella!

The Philadelphia Flyers racked up another win on Thursday night, beating the Minnesota Wild 6-2 and improving to a 4-2-1 record early into the 2023-24 season. Rookie Bobby Brink scored his first two NHL goals and whilst it’s exciting for the youngster, it means bad news for another forward.

This is all adding to the feud between Morgan Frost and head coach John Tortorella, which could lead to a trade in Philadelphia.

Frost may have had a career-high 19 goals last season and led the Flyers with 40 points over the last 55 games, he has been watching his teammates from the press box once again after being scratched for the past five games. He failed to register a point in the Flyers’ first two games of the season, and with Brink and Tyson Foerster both playing well, the former first rounder remains the odd man out at the moment.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman strongly believe this could lead to a trade in Philadelphia, especially since Frost was just recently re-signed to a contract extension.

“Morgan Frost is a little different. Philadelphia just re-signed him, have invested a lot of time in him, and he was fourth in team scoring last season. But if he doesn’t play — just two appearances so far — something will have to give.”

Last season, a similar feud erupted between Tortorella and forward Kevin Hayes, who was eventually traded out of Philly during the offseason. Hayes landed with the Blues in St. Louis for a sixth-round pick in the 2024 draft. The Flyers also retained half of Hayes’ $7.14 million salary cap hit for the next three years.

It all started when Hayes was a healthy scratch for one game and was benched multiple times during others because Tortorella didn’t like his level of play.

It appears to be repeating itself with Frost, who could get fed up and demand to be moved. Therefore, fans and pundits are keeping a close eye on Frost and what general manager Daniel Briere could try to pull off on the trade market. Some teams looking for added depth up front could pick up the phone and come calling the Flyers.
