Is St. Patrick done?
New York Islanders' GM Mathieu Darche has confirmed that head coach Patrick Roy will return in 2025-26.
The Islanders missed the playoffs this year, in Roy's second season as their head coach. With the team walking away from long-time GM Lou Lamoriello earlier this month, there was thought that they'd do the same with Roy. Today's news, however puts an end to those rumors.
Roy will be back next season and it's a big one for the Islanders. If they fail to make the post-season, I wouldn't be surprised to see Darche go for a full-on rebuild with the team's staff. What that means of Roy's long-term future with the team is also up for debate. Stay tuned, Isles fans.
