The New Jersey Devils have qualified for the playoffs only once in the last decade since their last run to the Stanley Cup Final a decade ago in 2012, the series they'd ultimately drop to the Los Angeles Kings in six games.
But now, they're adding some valuable Stanley Cup-winning experience to their coaching staff, and he's a name that Devils fans will instantly recognize. 3-time champion Sergei Brylin, who suited up for the Devils from 1994 to 2008, has been added to head coach Lindy Ruff's staff.
Brylin was selected by the Devils with the 42nd pick of the 1992 NHL Draft, and would eventually go on to play in 765 career games, all with New Jersey. Over the course of his career, he tallied 129 goals with 179 assists, while also adding another 15 goals and 19 assists in 109 career postseason games.
He helped the Devils to the 1995, 2000 and 2003 Stanley Cup championships before returning to his native Russia to finish his playing career for SKA St. Petersburg. Prior to his promotion by the Devils to their coaching staff, he was behind the bench of their American Hockey League affiliate, the Utica Comets.
