New rumour emerges about Gaudreau and the Flyers

This is not the first time a move from Calgary to Philly has been mentioned…

Ever since the Calgary Flames were ousted from this summer’s postseason - and even before the team got a chance to impress during the playoffs - there was loud chatter about how this may be the last season we see forward Johnny Gaudreau in a Flames’ uniform.

He managed to record four goals and seven points in 10 playoff games in August, and while he might have been attempting to convince GM Brad Treliving to keep him in Calgary, trade rumours kept coming his way. However, one speculation might not have bothered the Salem, NJ native as it was heard that a move to his favourite childhood team, the Philadelphia Flyers, could be in the making.

Finally on Thursday we got an update on that speculation in a mailbag segment on as Tracey Myers was asked if a trade to the Flyers would help Gaudreau’s production.

While Myers did acknowledg that Gaudreau’s production dipped last season, she believes he’ll bounce back in 2020-21, in Calgary. She doubts that the forward, who still has two years remaining on his contract, will be moved as the Flames might still have hope to see him back on track. There is no doubt that the Flyers would love to have him on board, but they might have to wait. What if Gaudreau has another sub-par performance or the Flames make another early postseason exit?

When asked about his future in Calgary, Gaudreau was adamant about wanting to stay.

“Calgary has been a second home to me. I love playing there. It’s a team I could see myself playing for for the remainder of my career.”

But will he get his way?
