There was chatter that Jesse Puljujarvi could be on the move, however now, we wonder if the Edmonton Oilers are even interested in parting with him. Last week, Oilers insider Jim Matheson of The Edmonton Journal wondered if Puljujarvi could be on the move this offseason in a potential trade with the Florida Panthers or the Ottawa Senators, however, now Matheson has another rumour up his sleeve.

The team insider had a stunning answer to Larry Fisher’s comments saying that: “This could have happened last summer already but maybe teams trying to acquire Puljujarvi will use an offer sheet threat as leverage now that he’s coming off a bounce-back year in Finland. Interesting take, nonetheless.”

Matheson replied: “I believe the Oilers would match it, then see what happens with the kid…”

This of course had a lot of fans wondering what are the Oilers planning to do with Puljujarvi.

As you know, Puljujarvi spent the season in Finland after requesting a trade from the Oilers, who weren’t looking to give him up for little return. He ended up tallying 24 goals and 53 points in 56 games with Karpat. The 22-year-old remains a restricted free agent without arbitration rights.

The NHL shutdown has probably allow the Oilers to think long and hard about what to do with the young forward. And now they have us wondering!
