Defenseman Jakob Chychrun hasn’t played for the Coyotes since February 10, as Arizona gets ready to trade the young blue liner before the trade deadline. The team has zero plans on having him play again before March 3rd.

Several teams have been linked to the defenseman with the usual suspects in the Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings and even the Columbus Blue Jackets, however, Darren Dreger believes a new front-runner has emerged.

After the Washington Capitals traded Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins, it sounds like the Caps are ready to pull the trigger on a big acquisition.

“It’s clear the Capitals are hoping to reset on the fly. Jake Chychrun is a player of interest for Washington. Including the 1st acquired from Boston, the Caps have the pick currency to make it work. The Chychrun saga has been ongoing since Nov, 2021.”

Many teams have been monitoring the situation on Chychrun, though some clubs have expressed frustration in not being able to see the defenseman in action some more before pulling the trigger on such a monster trade. The Coyotes are reportedly asking for two first-round picks in return for Chychrun’s services . After Thursday’s deal with Boston, the Capitals have two first-round picks in the 2023 draft and still own their firsts in the next two drafts after.

After finally returning to action in November, Chychrun has recorded seven goals and 28 points in 36 games with the Coyotes.

Will he be with the Capitals once his name gets written back a on scoresheet this season?
