Word emerging out of New York ahead of the Rangers’ game against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday isn’t encouraging. The team announced that star defenseman Adam Fox has been placed on long-term injured reserve after the blue liner left their 2-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden on Thursday after sustaining a lower-body injury in the first period.

Fox appeared to get hurt a leg-on-leg collision with Carolina’s Sebastian Aho midway through the first period. He did not return to the game after following his evaluation on Friday, it was confirmed that Fox will be out a minimum of 10 games and 24 days, will be eligible to return to the Rangers lineup on Nov. 29 at the Detroit Red Wings.

Fox won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman in 2021. He has put up three goals and eight assists in 10 games this season. He had 72 points in 82 games last year. This is a huge blow to the Rangers.

On top of that, New York will also be without forward Flilip Chytil, who was placed on injured reserve Friday. He left the game late in the second period with an upper-body injury.

Chytil has six assists in 10 games this season.

And to get Rangers’ fans quite worried, the team also announced they had recalled goalie Louis Domingue from Hartford of the American Hockey League. No. 1 goalie Igor Shesterkin is reportedly banged up and Domingue will be insurance in case the Russian netminder is unable to back up Jonathan Quick, who is expected to start against the Wild on Saturday.

The Rangers currently pace the Metropolitan Division with an 8-2-0 record through 10 games. But are now without three key players for the first weekend of action in November...
