The New York Rangers placed defenseman Ty Emberson on waivers on Friday and the move has cost them.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Chris Johnston, the Rangers have lost Emberson after the San Jose Sharks submitted a claim for him. Other teams may have also submitted a claim, but the Sharks were the team with the highest waiver priority to do so and have a new defenseman as a result.

Unfortunately for the Rangers they will receive no compensation for this.

Emberson, a 23 year old defenseman, was originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the 3rd round (73rd overall) at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Since that time he played out 4 collegiate seasons with the University of Wisconsin, and also played in the AHL for the Tucson Roadrunners, the Coyotes affiliate.

Emberson spent all of last season with the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, scoring 7 goals and adding 20 assists for a total of 27 points over 69 games.
