When the Chicago Blackhawks’ season at home came to an end back in April, it was time for veteran forward Pat Maroon to hang up the skates. Maroon officially retired from the National Hockey League, concluding a 14-season professional career, and is now focused on other projects.

But you had to know it would be related to hockey.

On Friday, the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL announced that they have hired the three-time NHL Stanley Cup Champion as an Assistant Coach ahead of the 2025-26 season.

“We are excited to add Pat to our coaching staff. As a program, we are always self-evaluating on how we get better. When this opportunity was presented to us, it was hard to turn down.” Said Lumberjacks President Steve Lowe . Adding someone like Pat, who has three Stanley Cup rings, is something that doesn’t come along very often. Pat will be a great mentor for our players, coaching staff, and everyone at the Muskegon Lumberjacks.” Lowe continued.

“We are excited to welcome Pat and can’t wait to see his impact on our players and coaches.”

Originally selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round,161st overall, of the 2007 NHL Draft, Maroon ended his illustrious career with a record of 323 points (126 goals, 197 assists) in 848 regular-season games with the Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning, Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins, and Chicago Blackhawks. He also tallied 20 goals and 53 points in 163 playoff appearances.

A native of St. Louis, Maroon won the Stanley Cup three straight times from 2019 to 2021, first with his hometown Blues, then in back-to-back seasons with the Lightning. He signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Blackhawks on July 1, 2024.

Maroon, who announced his intention to retire in March 2025 and played his final NHL game on April 13, a 5–4 shootout loss to the Winnipeg Jets at United Center, now starts a new chapter in life and will bring his experience and leadership to the Lumberjacks.
