NHL All-Star Brad Maxwell has lost his battle with cancer.
Former NHL All-Star and member of the Minnesota North Stars Brad Maxwell has passed.
Another member of our beloved hockey community has been taken too soon.
According to a report from the Minnesota Star Tribune, former Minnesota North Stars defenseman Brad Maxwell passed away on Sunday. Maxwell had been battling an aggressive form of lung cancer.
Maxwell, a former first round pick (7th overall) of the Minnesota North Stars at the 1977 National Hockey League Entry Draft, played over 600 games during his NHL career, most of which were spent in Minnesota. Maxwell also had brief stints with the Quebec Nordiques, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers as well.
The Canadian born Maxwell had a decorated career despite never capturing a Stanley Cup championship, winning the Memorial Cup in 1977 as a member of the New Westminster Bruins and being named an NHL All-Star during the 1983-84 season after recording 73 points over just 78 games.
In total he would appear in 612 NHL Games, scoring 98 goals and adding 270 assists for a total of 368 career points.
My thoughts go out to the Maxwell family, all of Brad's loved ones, and anyone in the hockey community impacted by this tragedy.
