NHL announces Norris Trophy candidates and the Edmonton Oilers are NOT happy about it

A petty move from the Oilers, in my opinion.

The NHL has revealed the three nominees for the 2026 Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman.

Earning the distinction are Rasmus Dahlin, Cale Makar and Zach Werenski.

It's important to note that these selections are made based on voting by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA).

You may notice that Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard is notably absent from the list... despite being the NHL's leader in points by a defenseman this past season.

Well, the Oilers themselves noticed, at least...

Check out this social media post by the Oilers that seems like a bit of a call out of the PWHA:

Honestly, Bouchard probably deserves a nod.

I mean, he led all NHL defensemen with 95 points this past season. The next closest player to him was Zach Werenski at 81 points. That's quite the spread...

And for those of you decrying Bouchard's defensive game, let me remind you that Erik Karlsson is a two time Norris Trophy winner.

Honestly though, my vote still probably goes to Cale Makar. You can't go wrong with Werenski or Dahlin either, but Makar's game is just on another level. I wouldn't argue with any of these three nominees as the eventual winner though.
