NHL announces referees for Game 7 in Toronto.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will have no excuses on Sunday night.

The National Hockey League has officially announced who will be officiating tonight's Game 7 in Toronto between the visiting Florida Panthers and the aforementioned Maple Leafs, and ostensibly the announcement is good news for the Maple Leafs.

The league has revealed that the game will be officiated by both Chris Rooney and Jean Hebert who will serve as the two referees as well as Devin Berg and Jonny Murray who will serve as the linesmen for tonight's monumental game.

There was a ton of concern in the city of Toronto that the Maple Leafs could get NHL official Wes McCauley as a referee, and for good reason. The Maple Leafs have done horribly in the Stanley Cup playoffs when McCauley is on the ice, boasting an almost unbelievable record of 0-9 in the playoffs when McCauley is the referee.

The Maple Leafs were also hoping to avoid NHL official Kelly Sutherland as their record under Sutherland in the playoffs isn't much better. The Maple Leafs have managed to rack up an impressive record of 0-8 under Sutherland, which is frankly hard to believe given the streak I just mentioned about McCauley.

Of course these playoff records span several years which include different personnel and even coaches for the Maple Leafs, but you can understand why fans would be concerned about the officials given how superstitious people can be at this time of year when it comes to their favorite hockey teams.

Will dodging McCauley and Sutherland be enough to get them past the defending Stanley Cup champions tonight? We will have to wait and see.
