Hockey can be a dangerous sport and therefore it comes as much less of a surprise to learn that a player has been injured over the course of a season in the National Hockey League. What is less common though are injuries to those who take part in the broadcasting of the NHL, like veteran sportscaster Daren Millard.

On Saturday the Las Vegas Golden Knights reported that Millard, who has been working the Golden Knights broadcast booth for the better part of 3 years now, had suffered serious injuries and would be unable to continue in his duties in the broadcast booth as a result of those injuries. Millard was reportedly involved in a bicycle accident on Friday, the details of that incident have not been made public.

From the Golden Knights:

Daren Millard will miss tonight’s game; he was hospitalized after a bicycle accident yesterday. He suffered significant injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

The Golden Knights also published a statement from Millard himself, and hopefully that is a sign that he is already on his way to making a recovery from his injuries.

"I am beside myself missing such a pivotal game," said Millard as per the Golden Knights. "I will be back at the desk as soon as soon as possible to help bring you this incredible playoff chase. When I get back on the bike will be another story. Go Knights Go."

Millard isn't kidding when he talks of missing games at a pivotal point in the season. The Golden Knights only have 10 games remaining on their schedule and currently trail the Dallas Stars by 2 points in the standings, a Dallas Stars team that has 11 games remaining on their schedule. I have no doubt that as both a fan and a broadcaster Millard was very much looking forward to these games, and I believe that he must be pretty banged up if he does indeed feel compelled to sit at least one game out due to his injuries.
