NHL commissioner Gary Bettman with an absolute shocking update on the league's next CBA
Mr. Lockout with a message for hockey fans.
In case you missed it yesterday, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman met with the media ahead of the opening game of the 4 Nations Face-Off where he shared some news about the state of the game from the league's perspective.
Lost in the shuffle of Bettman announcing the 2028 World Cup was a blip about a new CBA agreement between the NHL and the NHLPA. The current pact between the two sides expires in September, 2026 but Bettman said both sides expect to come to an agreement and that hockey fans "won't even notice that we've done it."
Call me skeptical, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Bettman, after all, has been the NHL's commissioner for three lockouts now and I wouldn't put it past him to lock the players out once again. Until the ink dries on a new contract, I'll never trust a Gary Bettman promise.
