3 players waived after 2 are claimed on Saturday.
It's been a busy weekend of waivers in the National Hockey League with several players being claimed and now even more being placed on waivers.
On Saturday two players changed hands when the Nashville Predators claimed defenseman Daemon Hunt away from Central Division rivals the Minnesota Wild, and when the Washington Capitals claimed defenseman Jack St. Ivany away from the Winnipeg Jets.
There will be 3 more players who can potentially be claimed available today however with 3 NHL teams each placing a single player on waivers.
Easily the most recognizable of the 3 will be veteran NHL enforcer Kurtis MacDermid. MacDermid was waived by the Ottawa Senators on Saturday and has yet to play an NHL game this season, but I could see him getting picked up by a team looking to add some toughness to their forward group. He's got a cap hit of just $1.15 million and is in the final year of his deal, making him a low risk pick up if he is indeed claimed.
Of the other two players being waived Jack Ahcan has the most NHL experience with 25 games under his belt. Ahcan played 2 games for the Predators this season but after the Predators claimed Hunt off waivers today he was a predictable waiver casualty.
Last but not least, Colorado Avalanche forward Georgii Merkulov was also waived on Saturday despite not having played a game in the NHL this season. Merkulov has thus far been a career American Hockey League player with just 11 NHL games under his belt, and it seems he may be headed back down to the AHL once again.
