NHL Expansion rosters expected to compete for playoff spot.

The National Hockey League's commissioner, Gary Bettman, told the hockey world that we would need to wait for June 22nd before hearing an official answer when it comes to potential expansion for the league, but it seems like they are gearing up for just that.

According to a report from ESPN's Craig Custance the NHL has run a variety of expansion draft scenarios, with the goal being that one or more of the expansion teams will have competitive rosters as soon as they enter the league.

How competitive? Well according to Custance he was informed by NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly that both rosters would be in the running for a playoff spot based on the multiple simulations run behind the scenes at the NHL executive offices.

Of course Daly is towing the company line when it comes to his comments on this topic, but it's a very bold proclamation none the less, and one that only increases our curiosity when it comes to the NHL's revamped expansion format.
