First, it was believed to be Las Vegas and Vancouver. And then Vancouver was dropped. On Tuesday night, the NHL shocked everyone and ruled out Vegas as one of the two hub cities to host the 24-team playoff tournament.

There were four contenders still in the mix, but it sounds like the NHL has made up its mind and will announce that action will resume… in Canada only.

This is how Bob McKenzie explained it as the hub city process goes on for now, on TSN’s latest Insider Trading edition from Tuesday night:

“The other development on the hub front is that there is a real possibility that it can be all-Canadian hubs. That is Toronto and Edmonton. That could be the proverbial jinx for one of those two places, because every time that we’ve tried to come up with what we think are the frontrunners…We thought it was (Las) Vegas and Vancouver, and then Vancouver was out. It was Vegas and Toronto and then Vegas seemed to be out. So I don’t know if saying Edmonton and Toronto are the frontrunners will jinx them. But right now, and admittedly it’s a very fluid situation, minute-to-minute and hour-to-hour that that is the case.”

And Bob did not jinx Edmonton and Toronto, because he revealed this morning that the two NHL Hub cities will be Edmonton and Toronto.

On Canada Day, can it be any better?!
