A pair of teams in the National Hockey League have been left to wonder whether or not they will be able to play today.

According to a report from Columbus Blue Jackets insider Aaron Portzline, the Blue Jackets were forced to cancel their travel plans last night for unknown reasons. The weather is believed to be the factor at play here although that has not officially been confirmed at this time, with Portzline reporting that Columbus is being hit with 50 mile per hour winds as well as dropping temperatures throughout the day on Monday.

As a result the entire Blue Jackets team has been grounded in Columbus and there are concerns that it may be unsafe to travel to Ottawa on Monday. The Blue Jackets are set to face the Senators at 7:00 pm Eastern Standard Time in Ottawa but that game will obviously have to be cancelled or postponed should the weather continue to make travel impossible.

Things aren't much better in Ottawa with reports on Monday morning of freezing rain and wind gusts of well over 40 miles per hour, another factor that could complicate the Blue Jackets travel plans.

Of course in this scenario both the National Hockey League and the Blue Jackets are focused on safety first, as they should be. There will no doubt be additional updates throughout the day as all the parties involved determine the best way to move forward.

Update: According to Portzline a new flight has been scheduled for 10:00 ET and the plan as of right now is for the Blue Jackets to skip their morning skate and play in Ottawa later tonight. As of right now, the game is still on.

According to Portzline the plane was initially grounded due to mechanical issues, although weather would likely have been a factor had the mechanical issues not arisen.

Update 2: The flight has once again been grounded, no word yet on if the NHL will postpone the game or not.

Stay tuned for more updates.
