Not much went right for the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena against the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night. Not only did they lose by a 6-2 final score, but head coach Sheldon Keefe was tossed by the on-ice officials with just minutes left in regulation after the game's outcome was already all but officially decided.
But fans also noticed that captain John Tavares appeared to be in discomfort on the bench, fueling speculation that he could be injured.
Thankfully, the latest update on Tavares is positive. According to NHL Insider Darren Dreger, the Leafs captain is good to go. He wrote the following on social media:
"We all saw Tavares in discomfort on the bench on Tuesday which has fuelled some speculation there is an injury situation. However, after checking with the team and the agent I’m told there is nothing health wise going on with JT."
The offensive production for Tavares has taken a step back this season, having scored just 17 goals with 26 assists in 56 games played.
The Leafs will have a prime opportunity to get back into the win column tonight, as they bring in the floundering Arizona Coyotes to Scotiabank Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM EST.
