We have further confirmation regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs new front office.

Earlier this weekend, I reported that both Mats Sundin and John Chayka would be announced as the two new executives that would lead the Maple Leafs into the future, and now the National Hockey League's top insider is sharing his insight into what each of their roles will look like.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that it will be Chayka who will take over as the next general manager of the Maple Leafs, a move that is being viewed as a highly controversial decision by many around the NHL.

Chayka's only other tenure as general manager in the NHL was with the Arizona Coyotes and it ended in considerable controversy with Chayka reportedly seeking opportunities with other teams while still under contract with the Coyotes. Chayka was also involved in another controversy, one in which the Coyotes improperly tested prospects during the scouting combine, resulting in the Coyotes losing both a first and second round pick under his watch.

Chayka was even suspended by the NHL as a result of his actions and this will be his first role in the league following that suspension.

Sundin on the other hand will be taking on a full time position with the Maple Leafs as Senior Executive Advisor, Hockey Operations, and is expected to move to Toronto with the rest of his family for this role.

Sundin is of course a beloved figure in Toronto as one of the greatest players to ever wear a Maple Leafs jersey, although it must be said that he has no management experience to speak of. The lack of experience also makes this somewhat of a controversial hire for the Maple Leafs, meaning that both of these moves are going to be under a ton of scrutiny moving forward.
