A rumor surrounding New York Islanders captain John Tavares needs to be shut down, and the forward is making sure it is.
After reporting to Newdays' Arthur Staple that he had not turned down a very lucrative $84 million offer from the Isles, Tavares made sure more than one NHL insider knew about the truth.
TSN insider Darren Dreger confirmed on Wednesday that Tavares had not discussed financial specifics to this point of the process.
The offer at the center of the rumors, assuming it’s for the maximum term length of 8 seasons, would give Tavares an annual average salary of $10.5 million. If he did indeed reject it, that’s troubling news for Isles fans.
Let's hope that Dreger's report will reassure the fans, who are eagerly waiting for positive developments for the captain.
