NHL insider drops bombshell update on Connor Hellkebuyck.

Things might be on the verge of becoming extremely ugly in Winnipeg.

A new update on the ongoing saga surrounding Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman has painted a rather bleak outlook of the future for both Hellebuyck and the Jets given where things currently stand. On his most recent podcast, Friedman revealed that there is a very real possibility that Hellebuyck will refuse to report for the season should the Jets fail to trade him prior to that date.

"I just think the biggest question this week is if he's going to show up to camp," said Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. "The word in the summer was if it wasn't done by the time camp started he wasn't going to attend, there was a worry it would be too much of a circus, we'll see if that's changed at all this week."

That would be bad enough in its own right but another report from NHL insider Darren Dreger suggests that Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff may not have a lot of options right now. According to Dreger, the offers that have come the Jets way have been nothing short of "terrible" and the Jets aren't about to give up their prized goaltender, who is still under contract for 5 more seasons, for pennies on the dollar.

Due to the shortened preseason schedule players will have to report by September, 17th for the upcoming season which of course is now only just a few short days away. Hellebuyck will have been forced to make a decision by that point, and there's no telling which way this one may be headed.
