There have been rumors swirling for a couple years now that the NHL is looking to expand yet again.

Call me crazy, but the league seems pretty full right now. With 32 teams and a 16 team playoff structure, I'd say that's damn near perfect. Still... Gary Bettman gets what Gary Bettman wants. And if Gary wants more teams, he's gonna get 'em.

The talk about new markets has mainly centered around Houston and Atlanta with some token conversations about Quebec City. But, NHL insider Kevin Weekes proposes a new candidate: Toronto.

Wait...

Of course, Toronto already has the Maple Leafs but Weekes maintains that the Toronto Metro area or "The Golden Horseshoe" as it's sometimes called can support another NHL team. The top spot would probably be Hamilton, as they've been in the running for an NHL team several different times throughout the league's history. The city built the now infamous Copps Coliseum in 1985 in an effort to attract and NHL team and Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie tried to relocate the Nashville Predators to Hamilton back in 2007.

Weekes on the potential of the NHL putting another team in Southern Ontario:

Another option, in this writer's opinion would be further west in London, Ontario. London obviously has a rich hockey history with the OHL's London Knights and has a large surrounding population to pull in fans from.
