The World Cup of Hockey is set to make it's return in February of 2028 and, although an official announcement is expected later today, one National Hockey League insider appears to have leaked the big news a little early.

On Monday morning, former NHL goaltender Kevin Weekes took to social media to reveal what can only be the locations of the two cities that will play host to the next World Cup of Hockey.

"Breaking news, breaking news, I am hearing some great news about the Province of Alberta," said Weekes in a video published on Monday. "Specifically Edmonton and Calgary regarding the upcoming World Cup of Hockey."

There were rumblings that a joint bid from the cities of Calgary and Edmonton was well received and this news from Weekes would appear to confirm that. That being said it is important to note that there will also be a host city located in Europe for this tournament, although that location has not as of yet been announced at this time.

It has been a decade since hockey fans were last treated to a World Cup of Hockey event with the last one taking place in 2016. That event featured a bizarre format including teams like Team Europe and Team North America and you have to go back even further for a proper World Cup of Hockey event.

You can hear Weekes hint at the announcement in the video below:
