Details of a new contract for Anthony Stolarz leak out on Sunday morning.
The Toronto Maple Leafs may be on the verge of getting one hell of a bargain.
On Sunday morning, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news that the Maple Leafs and goaltender Anthony Stolarz are closing in on the terms of a new contract. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, Friedman reports that this new deal will come in at around an average annual value of just $4 million per season.
Update: Kevin Weekes is now reporting that the deal currently on the table will have a 4 year term.
Stolarz has quite frankly been dynamite over the course of the past two seasons with the only real knock against him being his ability to stay healthy as well as questions about the workload that he can handle. During the 2023-24 season with the Florida Panthers Stolarz had a 2.03 goals against average and a .925 save percentage over 27 games, some of the best numbers in the league that season. He repeated that success the following year with the Maple Leafs with a 2.14 goals against average and a .926 save percentage over 34 games in the 2024-25 regular season, again some of the best numbers in the league that season.
Stolarz has however seen his playtime limited by injuries, with the most notable injury occurring during the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs after receiving an elbow to the head from Panthers forward Sam Bennett. While it is hard to blame Stolarz himself for that incident, many believe that Stolarz being knocked out of that series had a major impact on the outcome for the Maple Leafs.
All that being said, if Stolarz is able to remain healthy and maintain his current level of form, this deal could very well end up looking like a steal for the Maple Leafs.
