Fans in Edmonton who are nervously awaiting news of a new contract for superstar forward Connor McDavid will not have to wait much longer, at least not according to the National Hockey League's top insider.

On Saturday, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman commented on the ongoing negotiations from McDavid and did so from his location in Milan, Italy. Friedman was asked if he thought the deal would get done before training camp, and it seems the insider believes that this is far and away the most likely option.

"I could see it," admitted Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "I just think everybody wants to get it done."

Friedman provided some specific details about the timeline he believes the contract will get done under as well. According to the insider, he believes that McDavid and the Oilers will sit down after the Olympic orientation camp, but before training camp, to iron out the details of his new deal.

"I would expect in between the Olympic camp and training camp, they sit down and say 'How is this all gonna work,'" added Friedman.

Friedman seemed confident that this will be how things will play out in a few weeks time, with the insider reiterating his statements at numerous times during his most recent podcast.

"I would expect after Connor McDavid is done there and he goes back to Edmonton, they will work on getting this done."

This would be huge news for the Oilers and their fans if it does indeed come to pass, and the good news for them is that Friedman rarely makes statements of this nature without being very confident.
