Could Laine’s attitude force the Jets to make a trade?

We are not talking Fornite here. Or maybe we are. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, it seems that Patrik Laine’s attitude might be to blame as the restricted free agent star forward remains unsigned.

As Friedman discussed the many RFAs that are still looking to get inked before the start of the season in his latest 31 Thoughts column on Sportsnet, he couldn’t help but talk about Laine’s attitude and his fit with the team.

It sure seems like there is an issue there, and as we all know, this often leads general managers to make unforgettable trades. Remember the whole P.K. Subban ordeal in Montreal?

Let see what Friedman has to say:

“Laine’s looking for a bridge, but his situation is unique. This is as much about “fit” as anything. Scheifele and Blake Wheeler are hard-driving perfectionists. They demand a lot of themselves and of everyone around them. There’s not much of an “off” switch. It’s wrong to say Laine doesn’t care, but he likes to relax, turn off his brain and do other stuff. If I’m the Jets, I’d like his game to evolve — the sooner, the better — but I recognize his incredible talent and am not giving up on it. Everyone here has to work to understand each other, for the betterment of the team.”

As Friedman says, the Jets might focus on his talents only and look to get him on the roster. However, his attitude could get in the way on contract talks and we all know how ugly this can turn. And fast…

However, maybe Laine’s laid-back attitude will help in this situation and get both camps under agreement before the season kicks off…
