NHL insider shares an update on the future of Sheldon Keefe.
The head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs remains in his role despite Brad Treliving being appointed the new general manager.
The status of Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe has been something of a curious topic of discussion as of late with seemingly no one truly knowing which way the wind is blowing.
Many believed that it would be only a matter of time after general manager Kyle Dubas was fired by the Maple Leafs that Keefe would quickly follow suit, but the Maple Leafs have since appointed general manager Brad Treliving and Keefe remains in his position as head coach.
Recently NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared some additional details regarding Keefe's future, including the fact that an announcement may have been delayed.
"I had heard this was going to get sorted out early this week, now I'm not even convinced it will be," said Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast.
Friedman also indicated that he does not believe that the Maple Leafs are currently actively shopping for a new head coach, something that would appear to indicate that Keefe may keep his job.
"One thing I've tried to look into is, is Toronto interviewing anybody else?" said Friedman. "I can't find anyone. I think the answer is no, they haven't talked to anybody else."
It seems that, for at least the time being, Keefe's status remains in limbo. These do however appear to be positive signs for the head coach, especially considering that the longer this goes the fewer the options available will be for a potential replacement.
