During the NHL Player Media Tour earlier this month, some players spoke about the rule changes they would like to see in their sport. It was all wishful thinking because on Tuesday night, Darren Dreger revealed how the NHL was done tweaking the game - for the upcoming season that is - and how executives and managers are looking to watch players on the ice and see what they can do with the rules in place at this time.
“Well, look, general managers, hockey operations, people across the National Hockey League are always pitching ideas and looking at ways to improve. The “media general managers” do it on an hour-by-hour basis, but maybe it’s time to just stop and let the sport and the game breathe. … There’s nothing wrong with continuing to monitor, but let’s just leave it at that for now.”
With less than two weeks to go before the start of the 2023-24, fans usually get the notice that the league is looking to implement new rules, but this time around it sounds like this is it and we will let the players do their thing.
However, some of them had made great suggestions at the NHL Player Media Tour, including, eliminating the salary cap, abolishing the shootout to lengthen overtime and bringing back the red line, but it sounds like no changes will be implemented for this season.
Are you happy with this call? What changes would you like to see made to the game in the future?
